Philanthropic Involvement through Delta Zeta
With Delta Zeta, I learned the necessary skills to be an effective leader and communicator while serving a philanthropy dear to my heart.I was motivated to become a member of Delta Zeta Sorority at LSU because its national philanthropy is "Speech and Hearing." As members, we often dedicated our time and money to many great causes, and I especially benefited from my volunteer work with the Speech and Hearing organizations. Along with the philanthropic opportunities Delta Zeta provided, the leadership experiences I gained strengthened me as an individual, communicator, and future clinician. I was the Academic Chairman and a member of the Executive Board during the 2012, calendar year.
As Academic Chairman, I was responsible for:

The Painted Turtle Camp
This summer, I volunteered at The Painted Turtle Camp as a camp counselor. The Painted Turtle Camp is a camp in California for children with chronic or life threatening diseases. This was a wonderful learning experience because I
had never previously dealt with children so ill. I learned a great deal about the care of children with serious diseases, and I plan to use my new knowledge as a clinician with my more sickly clients who suffer speech, language, or hearing problems due to their disorders or diseases.

Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation
I volunteered at the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation (BRSHF) for special events, such as the Fall Fest, the Easter Egg Hunt, and the Mardi Gras Parade. It was amazing to see the joy on the children's faces when participating in such fun events. Delta Zeta, as a whole, provided monetary donations to the foundation and helped fund the building of a new playground facility for the children. Through this volunteer experience, I gained more knowledge and skills about working with children with disabilities, specifically children with autism and developmental delays.
